Baking Powder Biscuits
The easy path to biscuits: cut in shortening, stir, and drop by the spoonful. You could roll and cut, but that is more mess for a weeknight tray.
| Yield | One sheet of drop biscuits |
| Time | ~20 minutes |
| Difficulty | Easy |
Ingredients
- ¼ cup shortening
- 2 cups flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup milk
Instructions
- Heat oven to 450°F.
- Cut shortening into flour.
- Mix in the remaining ingredients.
- Drop dough by heaping tablespoon onto a greased cookie sheet, about 1 inch apart.
- Bake 10–12 minutes until golden brown.
Notes
Rolling on a floured board and cutting rounds is optional. Drop biscuits are intentional here — less cleanup, still good biscuits.
